The French decade (1806-1815) is considered from historiographyas one of the most complicated period in the History on reign of Naples, in which period the administrative and cultural system of both capital and reign modernizes. In thit spirit, the new sovereigns state a strong will to rationalization of the campaign excavations in Ercolano and Pompei. GioacChino Murat, King of Naples from 1808'to 1815, and especially his wife Carolina Bonaparte show a specific attention to Pompei. Certainly Murat's were not archeologists but had the merit to surround themselves with local and French experts. Locals that have to be mentioned are Michele Arditi (1146-1838)e Giuseppe Capecelatro (1744-1836), Archibishop of Taranto ; between French the architect Francais Mazois (1783-1826), the count of Clarac (1777-1847) and particularly the archeologist Aubin-Louis Millin (1759-1818). The last one made a long and fruitful journey in Italy from 1811 to 1813. Since the archeologist was 52 years old, his tour was not a training trip but an institutional voyage commissioned by the Ministry of de Interior, the count of Montalivet. Millin could availed himself of useful economic and logistic contribution since the areas he covered by the time were part of the Empire : letters of recommendation and authorizations granted by the highest authorities eased the feat.Differently froth his predecessors, Min was the first to plan a trip extremely accurate and balanced widespread in all over the provinces of South. Without neglecting any eras -from ancient times to middle age and from Renaissance to Baroque- proceeding a meticulous historical method, Millin shows interest in all the artistic forms and largely in cultural ones: from 'architecture to painting, from sculpture to decorative arts, from epigraphy to customs, without disregard the poorest tools watched also in taverns and Hotels he visited. This global interest for each form of produit as well as the study of the Naturalist. Phenomenon considerably distinguishes him from his predecessori.In this investigation it is introduced the trip of the archeologist in Puglia (January-February 1813) and the realationships he established with important local reseachers, in particular with Onofrio Bonghi, major of Lucera and with the archdeacon Luca de Samuele Cagnazzi he met in Altamura.
