A critical edition of Oppian{\textquoteright}s Halieutica, Book I, with a translation into French and a commentary

This thesis contains a critical edition of the first Book of the Halieutica by Oppian of Cilicia, a translation into French, a study of the manuscript tradition and a commentary. The preliminary dissertation reasserts the distinction between Oppian and the pseudo-Oppian. It points out the influence of the Second Sophistic and puts forward a new way of discussing the scientific poetry produced in Antiquity. In her inquiry into the origins of the Halieutica, the author underlines the importance of the aristotelician treatises, of their compendia and also of the paradoxography. Furthermore, the preliminary dissertation lists the main features of Oppian{\textquoteright}s language and style, showing that his innovative poetry abounds with neologisms. After a study of the papyri, the first part, dedicated to the manuscript tradition, describes and orders 75 manuscripts while bringing forth new historical analyses on the circles in which this poem has been read, from Ioannikios{\textquoteright} scriptorium to Constantine Lascaris{\textquoteright}circle, including Maximus Planudes or Michael Apostolius{\textquoteright} workshops. The drawing up of a new stemma allows a wide eliminatio codicum and the selection of 13 manuscripts for the critical apparatus. As regards the commentary of the verses of Book I, it is divided into two sections : critical notes and a commentary following the various parts of the text. The latter investigates the poetics of the list at stake in the catalogue of sea animals and studies the philosophical and rhetorical aspects of the Zeus hymn. 75 plates are to be found in Appendix 3.
