Building a data model with the ability to encompass the diversity of European cultural heritage, across domains and institutions, is a true challenge. The Europeana Data Model (EDM) was designed as a means to create a semantic network of agregated content, to serve as a basis for smart applications and thus to improve user experience. After several years building on that model in a variety of subject areas, we have now enough experience to identify strengths and weaknesses of the approach. The aim of this session is to explore implementations of data models in practice, in various domains and subject areas, to share lessons learnt and to identify further steps for the development and application of relevant data models within Europeana.
